I Couldn’t Find Nursery Décor I Actually Loved — So, During Nap Times, I Made It

Hi, I’m Clara. Tiny Walls started in the least glamorous way a business can: a tired mum, a half-finished nursery, and a Pinterest board that somehow made me feel like I was failing.
I’d pictured my baby’s room so clearly — calm, a little bit wild, a gum branch with native birds, something that felt like us. But every way to get there had a catch. Paint and a feature wall? We were renting, so that wasn’t worth the bond. A mural artist? Hundreds of dollars I didn’t have. And the wall stickers I found online were shiny and plasticky and looked like clip-art the moment they went up — a couple even tugged at the paint.
So the wall stayed bare, and the room kept feeling… not quite right. What I actually wanted was simple: something quick, easy, and beautiful — something I could pull off during nap time.
When I couldn’t buy it, I decided to make it.
What I wish had existed
I worked with an artist to hand-paint original watercolour designs — Australian gum trees, koalas, native birds — and had them printed on a soft, matte fabric instead of cheap vinyl. Non-toxic and PVC-free, because it’s going in a baby’s room. A gentle, water-based adhesive so you can reposition as you place, and take them down clean with a little heat when the room changes. All designed and printed right here in Melbourne.
That first nursery finally felt finished — in one nap time, no paint, no bond on the line. I shared it, other mums asked where it was from, and Tiny Walls grew from there.
