Are Tiny Walls decals and wallpaper water-resistant?

Yes, our decals and wallpaper are water-resistant, meaning they can withstand minor exposure to moisture, such as a light wipe with a damp cloth. However, they are not waterproof, so they should not be exposed to heavy moisture or installed in areas with high humidity, such as bathrooms or kitchens.

How should I clean my decals and wallpaper?

To clean your decals or wallpaper, simply use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe the surface. Avoid using any harsh chemicals or excessive water, as this can damage the material or affect the adhesive.
Do not rub hard or use sharp objects to clean as you may sratch the print. Gentle pressure is recommended.

Can I use Tiny Walls products in high-humidity areas like bathrooms?

We do not recommend using our products in high-humidity areas such as bathrooms, as the constant moisture can compromise the adhesive and cause the decals or wallpaper to peel.

What should I avoid when caring for my decals and wallpaper?

To ensure the longevity of your Tiny Walls products, avoid:Excessive water exposure or scrubbing.Harsh cleaning products like bleach or abrasive cleaners.Installing them in areas exposed to direct water or high humidity.

How durable are Tiny Walls decals and wallpaper?

With proper care and installation on suitable surfaces, our products are designed to last for years. They are durable enough to withstand light cleaning but should not be exposed to heavy moisture or rough handling.

What kind of adhesive do Tiny Walls products use?

Our wall decals and wallpapers use a non-permanent, water-based adhesive that is safe for walls and easy to remove. This adhesive ensures your walls remain undamaged when you decide to take down or reposition the decals. This is not guaranteed on old flaky paint, please take precautios when removing from this type of surface to reduce chance of damage, click here for our removal guide

How does the adhesive work?

The adhesive is pressure-activated, meaning it requires firm and even pressure during installation to adhere correctly. The adhesive takes a full 30 days to build up strength on your walls. This helps the decal stick securely to the wall while still allowing for easy removal later on.

Why is it important to apply the decals on a smooth surface?

Since our adhesive is pressure-activated, it needs a smooth, clean surface to bond effectively. Applying decals on textured or uneven surfaces can cause poor adhesion, and the decals may not stay in place properly.

Can the decals be easily removed or repositioned?

Yes! Our decals are designed to be non-permanent, meaning they can be removed without leaving residue. This makes them ideal for renters or anyone looking for a temporary wall solution.

What makes the water-based adhesive special?

The water-based adhesive we use is eco-friendly, non-toxic, and free from harsh chemicals, making it safe for homes, nurseries, and children's rooms. It's gentle on walls and does not leave messy adhesive behind when removed.

What types of walls are suitable for Tiny Walls decals and wallpaper?

Our products work best on smooth, clean, painted drywall or similar flat surfaces. We recommend applying them on non-textured walls for optimal adhesion. Avoid applying decals or wallpaper on textured, freshly painted, or Teflon-coated walls.

How long should I wait after painting before applying decals or wallpaper?

If you’ve recently painted your walls, we recommend waiting at least 4 weeks for the paint to fully cure before applying any decals or wallpaper. Applying them too soon can result in poor adhesion, causing our products to fail to stick and potentially fall off the wall. This happens because fresh paint goes through a process called outgassing, where it releases moisture and chemicals as it dries. Allowing the paint to fully cure ensures a smooth, stable surface for the decals or wallpaper to adhere properly.

Can I apply Tiny Walls products on textured or rough surfaces?

No, we do not recommend applying our products on textured or rough surfaces such as brick or heavily textured walls, as the decals and wallpaper may not adhere properly and could peel off.

Can I hang items like name signs or picture frames over Tiny Walls decals or wallpaper?

We do not recommend sticking heavy items like name signs, picture frames, or other wall hangings directly onto our decals or wallpaper. The weight of these items can pull the product off the wall. Instead, use proper wall hanging fixtures like nails or anchors to securely hang items over the product.

How can I safely hang items over decals or wallpaper?

To hang items over decals or wallpaper, use proper wall-mounted hooks, nails, or wall anchors that are installed directly into the wall, bypassing the decal or wallpaper. This will prevent damage and ensure the item stays securely in place.

How does lighting impact the colours of wall decals and wallpaper?

Lighting can have a significant effect on how colours look once applied to your walls. Natural light tends to make colours appear brighter and more vibrant, but this can change depending on the time of day. Artificial light can also influence colours:Warm lighting (yellow-toned) can soften or mute colours.Cool lighting (blue-toned) can make colours look brighter but may create a cooler, harsher effect.

Why do colours look different in different rooms?

The type of lighting in each room, combined with factors like shadows, can alter how colours appear. For example, rooms with lots of natural light may make colours look different than those lit primarily by artificial bulbs.

How can I ensure the colours meet my expectations?

We recommend ordering a sample and testing it in your space under the actual lighting conditions present in your home. This allows you to see how the colour will look in your specific environment before placing a full order, avoiding unexpected differences in appearance.

Will Tiny Walls products damage my paint?

While our products are designed to be gentle on walls, the condition of your paint plays a significant role in the outcome. If you live in an older home where the paint hasn’t been updated in years, the paint may have deteriorated, making it more prone to damage when decals or wallpaper are applied or removed. We always recommend removing and repositioning products carefully to avoid any issues, especially on older surfaces.

IMPORTANT: Do not apply wall decals to freshly painted walls. Allow at least 4 weeks for the paint to fully cure and "outgas" before installation to prevent bubbling or the decals falling off. Avoid applying to walls with old, flaky, or improperly applied paint, as this may affect adhesion and durability. Please note: While our products are designed to be removable, there is a risk of paint damage upon removal, especially if the wall surface is not in ideal condition.

Did You Know? Paint Doesn't Last Forever

One of the main reasons for paint damage during the removal of decals or wallpaper is the natural deterioration of paint over time, especially if the surface wasn’t properly prepped before painting. As paint ages, it can start to lift, crack, or peel, making it more prone to damage when you remove any wall coverings. But don’t worry! If your walls are in less-than-perfect condition, we have tips and techniques to help you safely remove our products with minimal impact. Check out our removal guide for best practices to protect your walls!

How important is wall preparation before painting?

Proper wall preparation is crucial for ensuring long-lasting paint adhesion. If the wall isn’t properly primed and prepared, the paint may not adhere well to the surface, especially on plasterboard or drywall. This can result in paint lifting or peeling over time.

What steps should be taken when painting walls?

To ensure a durable paint job, we recommend following these essential steps. For best results, consider consulting a professional for advice tailored to your wall's condition:Surface Cleaning: Make sure the wall is clean and free of dust, grease, or any debris.Priming: Apply a high-quality primer to create a smooth, solid base that improves paint adhesion. Two Coats of Paint: It's recommended to apply two coats of paint for even coverage and a strong bond to the wall surface.Drying Time: Ensure ample drying time between coats to allow the paint to properly set and adhere to the surface.Proper preparation can significantly improve paint durability and help maintain the integrity of both your paint and any products applied to it, like Tiny Walls decals or wallpaper.

What happens if these steps are missed?

If the wall isn’t properly primed or prepared, or if fewer than two coats of paint are applied, the paint may not adhere well to the plasterboard or drywall underneath. This can lead to paint lifting, cracking, or peeling, especially when it interacts with humidity or temperature changes.

How can this affect the application of Tiny Walls products?

If the paint is lifting or deteriorating, it can cause issues when applying decals or wallpaper. Our products rely on a smooth, stable surface for proper adhesion, and paint that is peeling or poorly adhered can cause our products to not stick correctly or damage the wall when removed.

How can I ensure my walls are compatible with your products?

We encourage you to order one of our 1-metre large samples to test the product on your wall before committing to a full installation. This allows you to see how the decals or wallpaper interact with your specific wall conditions, helping to ensure they can be applied and removed safely.

Why can’t you guarantee a 100% damage-free experience?

Every wall is unique, and factors like the age of the paint and surface quality can vary widely. While we strive for a damage-free experience, older or poorly maintained walls may be more susceptible to paint peeling or damage during installation or removal. This is why testing with a sample is the best way to determine compatibility.

Can I use your products in a rental property?

Yes, our wallpapers and decals are rental-friendly and typically leave no residue upon removal. However, it’s important to test a sample first, particularly in older or previously damaged areas. We also recommend checking with your landlord to confirm approval before applying.

What should I do if I'm unsure about my wall’s condition?

If you’re unsure about your wall’s condition, start by ordering a sample and testing it in an inconspicuous area. This will help you assess how well the product adheres to your wall and whether it can be safely removed later. Always remove the product slowly and carefully to minimise any potential damage. For any additional questions, feel free to reach out to us. We're here to help you make the best decision for your walls!

What if my wall paint is old or deteriorating?

If your wall paint is old or deteriorating, take extra caution when removing decals or wallpaper. Use a hairdryer on a low setting to heat the adhesive as you peel, and make sure to peel very, very slowly. This will soften the adhesive and reduce the risk of pulling off paint. The slower and more gently you go, the better your chances of avoiding damage to the wall.

How can I ensure decals remain securely attached to the wall?

To maintain safety, particularly in children's rooms, it is essential to:Apply decals on smooth, clean surfaces and press firmly to ensure proper adhesion.Avoid installing decals in areas with high humidity or direct heat sources, which may weaken the adhesive over time.

Should I regularly inspect the decals after installation?

Yes, we recommend regularly inspecting decals that are placed near children's beds, cribs/cots, or play areas to ensure they remain securely attached to the wall. If you notice any signs of peeling or loosening, take action immediately.

What should I do if the decal starts to peel or fall?

If you observe that a decal is starting to peel, especially near areas where your child sleeps or plays, it’s important to either reapply it securely or remove it immediately. This will help prevent the decal from falling and posing any potential hazards.

By following these safety guidelines, you can ensure a safe and secure environment in your home with Tiny Walls products. For any additional questions or concerns, please contact us at hello@tinywalls.com.au.
